·   Sermon Introduction

“Chapter 19 marks a dramatic change in the book of Revelation.  The destruction of Babylon marks the end of the Great Tribulation.  The somber gives way to the song.  The transfer is from darkness to light, from black to which, from dreary days of judgment to bright days of blessing.” J. Vernon McGee

b.      He receives the glory. This is His moral excellence.

c.      He receives the honor. This is His due.

d.      He has the power to overthrow wicked civilization.

His salvation should awaken gratitude; His glory should awaken reverence, and His power should awaken trust.

The concluding phrase of v. 10 is significant.  It means that prophecy at its very heart is designed to unfold the beauty and loveliness of Jesus.  In the present age, the Spirit of God is not only to glorify Christ but also to show believers things to come as they relate to the person and majesty of Christ.

CONCLUSION - Four Lessons

  • The inescapable consequences of sin.  God will not allow the world to persist in unrighteousness.
  • Second, God’s judgment is true and righteous.  He alone can judge without prejudice.
  • Third, some people will escape the judgment of God.  They will be at the marriage supper of the Lamb.
  • There are some important truths about worship.
    1. Worship in heaven has great dignity.
    2. Worship in heaven includes everyone. No one will say, “Well, I can’t sing.”
    3. Heaven’s songs are theocentric.
    4. Worship means everyone will offer praise to God for His glory, not for his or her entertainment.
  • There are some important truths about the worshippers.
    1. True worshippers accept the will of God, v. 4.  The elders say, “Amen.”
    2. True worshippers are committed to God’s purposes, v. 6 “. . . God reigns…”
    3. True worshippers will discover the joy of fellowship, v. 7.
    4. True worshippers rest in the assurance of God’s victory, v. 6, Omnipotent = Almighty.
